{"id":1173,"date":"2019-02-14T12:48:04","date_gmt":"2019-02-14T17:48:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/connietuttle.com\/blog\/?p=1173"},"modified":"2019-02-14T12:48:04","modified_gmt":"2019-02-14T17:48:04","slug":"do-you-love","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/connietuttle.com\/blog\/do-you-love\/","title":{"rendered":"Do You Love?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/connietuttle.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/divine-love.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1174\" src=\"http:\/\/connietuttle.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/divine-love.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"265\" height=\"190\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Today we celebrate love<br \/>\nand my first question is:<br \/>\nWho do you love?<\/p>\n<p>Who do I love?<br \/>\nAnd before that question is the question:<br \/>\nWhat is love?<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m going philosophical on you today.<br \/>\nThese are meant to be big questions<br \/>\nnot small ones.<br \/>\nThese are questions<br \/>\nwithout firm answers<br \/>\nexcept maybe to star-struck lovers<br \/>\nand new mothers and fathers&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>This week I am preaching \u00a0the Sermon on the Mount<br \/>\nnot just the beatitudes<br \/>\nbut three long chapters of teaching<br \/>\nthat includes the challenge for<br \/>\nmy interior life<br \/>\nto match my actions<br \/>\nto love those<br \/>\nwho I might otherwise<br \/>\nhate<br \/>\nto risk a kind of living<br \/>\nthat is as dangerous<br \/>\nas it is<br \/>\ndifficult.<\/p>\n<p>So today, I ask myself:<br \/>\nWho do I love?<br \/>\nAnd part of me answers:<br \/>\nno one.<br \/>\nAnd part of me answers:<br \/>\neveryone.<\/p>\n<p>The whole of me answers:<br \/>\nmy daughter, with all my heart<br \/>\nmy family, to the best of my ability<br \/>\nmy friends, who have refused to<br \/>\nabandon me.<br \/>\nBut am I that small?<\/p>\n<p>So I reach further back<br \/>\nand ask:<br \/>\nWhat is love?<br \/>\nIs it feeling?<br \/>\nAn intention?<br \/>\nOr is it the will toward goodness<br \/>\nfor every life?<br \/>\nIsn&#8217;t love the activity of justice?<br \/>\nThe care of and for each life<br \/>\nno matter their doctrine,<br \/>\nskin color,<br \/>\ngender orientation<br \/>\nnationality?<br \/>\nIsn&#8217;t Divine love<br \/>\nwhat propels our planet<br \/>\nthrough the cosmos<br \/>\nand\u00a0insists on recognition<br \/>\nin the most unseemly places?<\/p>\n<p>This day of hearts and flowers<br \/>\nlovers and dreamers<br \/>\nis also a day that invites us<br \/>\nto think bigger<br \/>\nact larger<br \/>\nopen wider<br \/>\nto the Love<br \/>\nthat both drives \u00a0planets<br \/>\nand searches out our deepest<br \/>\nsecret\u00a0places<br \/>\nto insinuate itself<br \/>\ninto our beings.<\/p>\n<p>So if you are buying flowers for a loved one today<br \/>\nor strewing rose petals across the bed&#8230;<br \/>\nif your heart is racing as you hold the image<br \/>\nof your beloved in your imagination<br \/>\nlet the feelings \u00a0grow<br \/>\nlet them grow big enough<br \/>\nto hold the whole world<br \/>\nin it&#8217;s embrace.<br \/>\nSo that what thrives<br \/>\ndeep within you<br \/>\ngrows the bigger question:<br \/>\n&#8216;how will I love the world?&#8217;<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/connietuttle.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/images1.jpeg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-72\" src=\"http:\/\/connietuttle.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/images1.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"293\" height=\"172\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<!-- AddThis Advanced Settings generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Share Buttons generic via filter on the_content -->","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Today we celebrate love and my first question is: Who do you love?
