Epic. The story of a vision of justice that they tried to live in to in spite of their short-comings.<br \/>\nThey were a flawed lot. Betrayers. Dreamers. Power grabbing. In the play things happen too fast and parts of the story that would explain the downfall are hidden and the audience can \u00a0only guess. I wanted to shout &#8220;Look there, behind you!&#8221; \u00a0But I didn&#8217;t know what to point to.<\/p>\n<p>In the end \u00a0\u00a0Arthur walks through the rubble of the dream of a time and place built of great ideas of \u00a0justice and good \u00a0when he stumbles on a young squire \u00a0who still believes and wants to be a knight of the Round Table. Arthur sings his final song to him:<\/p>\n<p>Each evening, from December to December,<br \/>\nBefore you drift to sleep upon your cot,<br \/>\nThink back on all the tales that you remember<br \/>\nOf Camelot.<br \/>\nAsk ev&#8217;ry person if he&#8217;s heard the story,<br \/>\nAnd tell it strong and clear if he has not,<br \/>\nThat once there was a fleeting wisp of glory<br \/>\nCalled Camelot.<br \/>\n(take a listen at link below)<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/_lhduy0Em74\">https:\/\/youtu.be\/_lhduy0Em74<\/a><\/p>\n<p>When I left the theatre I sat in my car and sobbed uncontrollably for \u00a0half an hour.<\/p>\n<p>The United States of America is our Camelot, built on amazing, brilliant, beautiful ideas and ideals to be lived out \u00a0by a flawed and imperfect people. Historically, we have worked to live into the \u00a0dream of \u00a0a nation of laws and justice, of common heritage not dependent on geographic origins, \u00a0a work in progress pointed toward the perfection of universal suffrage and rights. \u00a0<em>We judged ourselves against our aspirations not our reality.<br \/>\n<\/em>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 Today we stand in the rubble of what could have been. Things are coming too fast and parts of the story are hidden and untold that would explain our downfall. \u00a0But most of us, like the audience of Camelot, can only guess at what is happening behind the curtain.<br \/>\nI want our ending to be different. I want the next generation to hold on to the dream but I want more than that. I want to win this battle for our souls.\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/connietuttle.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/statue-destroyed-2.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-1267\" src=\"http:\/\/connietuttle.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/statue-destroyed-2-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"353\" height=\"265\" srcset=\"https:\/\/connietuttle.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/statue-destroyed-2-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/connietuttle.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/statue-destroyed-2-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/connietuttle.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/statue-destroyed-2-600x450.jpg 600w, https:\/\/connietuttle.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/statue-destroyed-2.jpg 960w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 353px) 100vw, 353px\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nThis is the moment we rise, we stand, we march, we confront the would-be killers of the dream. \u00a0Our \u00a0future pivots on every action we take. How grand it would be to find a leader to lead us out but <strong><em>we&#8217;ve set it up so\u00a0that we are the leaders<\/em><\/strong>.<br \/>\nSo lead, friends, lead.<br \/>\nBe tactical in decision making, \u00a0be willing to confront those who would rip the dream to shreds, and hold tight to the dream that is our heritage with every ounce of passion and commitment \u00a0you can muster.<br \/>\nAt the very least, \u00a0go down fighting for what is worth fighting for. At best, the dream lives.
