{"id":824,"date":"2018-03-21T11:02:19","date_gmt":"2018-03-21T15:02:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/connietuttle.com\/blog\/?p=824"},"modified":"2018-03-21T11:06:20","modified_gmt":"2018-03-21T15:06:20","slug":"passover-heresy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/connietuttle.com\/blog\/passover-heresy\/","title":{"rendered":"Passover Heresy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/connietuttle.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/orange_seder_plate_matt_deturck_flickr_creative_commons-300x225.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-826\" src=\"http:\/\/connietuttle.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/orange_seder_plate_matt_deturck_flickr_creative_commons-300x225-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>To some:<br \/>\nIt is a heresy to celebrate a religious holiday on a day other than the prescribed date.<br \/>\nIt is a heresy to place an orange in the middle of a seder plate.<br \/>\nIt is a heresy to adopt a tradition outside one&#8217;s own.<\/p>\n<p>To me, it is only &#8216;heresy&#8217; when my tradition (Christianity) appropriates the meal to give it &#8216;Christian&#8217; meaning. The story is universal. It is the story of the Jews. It is the story of humanity. The question for me is, &#8220;where do our stories intersect?&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>My answer this year is this:<br \/>\nthey intersect in the places we are oppressed<br \/>\nthey intersect in the places we oppress others<br \/>\nthey intersect when we examine the journey of the faithfulness\/faithlessness<br \/>\nthey intersect when the story we recall resonates in our hearts and minds<\/p>\n<p>With great thanksgiving for the Jewish tradition of the Passover seder,<br \/>\nwe celebrate the meal each year<br \/>\nand we remember<br \/>\nand we learn<br \/>\nand we internalize<br \/>\nand we encourage<br \/>\nand we mourn<br \/>\nand we celebrate<br \/>\nand we learn to hope again<\/p>\n<p>We challenge authority and the misuse of power. <em>We encourage one another to resist<\/em>. We remember to trust that Godde&#8217;s vision for humanity as one of freedom.<\/p>\n<p>And we learn with our bodies.
